Frequently asked questions about dental cleaning and exams

What happens during my regular dental visit?

During your dental visit, our welcoming reception staff will guide you to our comfortable waiting area and offer you a ‘New Patient Form’ to fill out with your details. Having a comprehensive medical summary and any private health insurance information on hand, if applicable, will expedite the process. Following this, you’ll be introduced to our dedicated team to discuss any dental concerns you may have.

Why does my dentist need to take an X-ray?

X-rays play a crucial role in evaluating the underlying condition of your teeth and gums. At SIA Dental, we utilize cutting-edge hardware and software to capture accurate images. Our dentists recommend the following X-rays for a comprehensive assessment:

  1. Small digital X-ray (Bitewing or PA): These X-rays are typically taken during your initial appointment to reveal any hidden dental decay, existing fillings, signs of gum disease, and bone levels.
  2. Full mouth X-ray (OPG): This comprehensive scan captures a detailed image of all your teeth, allowing your dentist to assess the overall health of your teeth, jaws, and sinuses. As part of the Medical & Dental Centre, we offer this X-ray at our in-house Radiology Lab for eligible Medicare card holders. Other dental clinics typically charge between $100 and $150 for this X-ray alone.

How often do I need an X-ray taken?

Our dentists recommends for a set of X-ray images for all new patients to establish a baseline for their dental health. For individuals at a heightened risk of dental decay or gum disease, we advise new X-rays at shorter intervals, typically every 6 to 12 months.

For patients at lower risk, we suggest new X-rays at intervals ranging from 12 to 24 months.

This personalized approach ensures that our patients receive appropriate and timely care tailored to their individual needs.

What happens after my dental checkup?

Our dentists will craft a personalized treatment plan, which will include all options, risks, costs, and timeframe.

Depending on your specific needs, we may schedule an additional appointment to further discuss your finalized treatment plan, especially if more information is required. This ensures thorough consideration and tailored solutions for your oral health.

Throughout this process, you’ll have ample opportunity to ask any questions and address any concerns you may have. Your involvement is crucial in achieving optimal oral health outcomes.

Embark on a journey towards a healthier, happier smile.
